Article VIII. - Committees
- There shall be eight (8) standing committees: Auditing, Awards, Constitution, Local Arrangements, Membership,
Nominating, Program, and Public Relations, plus any additional committees the President may appoint, with the
approval of the Executive Committee, to carry out society business. The President and Vice President shall be ex-officio
members of all committees, except auditing. Committees shall generally consist of a chairman and at least two (2)
members.
- Policy on committee membership - All committee vacancies shall be appointed by the President with the approval of the
Executive Committee with the exception of chairperson of the Program Committee (Vice President) and of the Awards
Committee (Immediate Past President). Only in special cases as deemed by the Executive Committee shall a member
serve on more than one (1) Standing Committee.
- All committee appointments shall be completed by the first business meeting of the Executive Committee, following the
regular annual meeting of the Society.
- Limitation of powers of Officers and Committees - No individual officer or committee member shall have the authority
to bind the Society for the payment of money or the performance on any contract. Such authority is reserved solely for
the Executive Committee.
- All Standing Committees, except the Program Committee, shall present written reports covering their activities at each
annual business meeting of the Society.
- All appointments shall be for 1 year except members of the Auditing Committee whose term shall be for three (3) years.
At the time this takes effect, the President shall appoint one member for a 3-year term, one member for a 2-year term,
and one member for a 1-year term, with all subsequent appointments being for a 3-year term unless a vacancy exists on
the committee.
